This week's tech yeah is not a coincidence. Mophie contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I wanted to check out a few of their accessories coming to the iPhone 12 and Magsafe. Mophie has a whole ecosystem of Snap accessories that are designed to work with Magsafe. One of those is the Snap Juice Pack mini. This is a 5,000 mAh battery that snaps onto the back of your iPhone 12 or any other phone you want with wireless charging. The Snap juice pack comes with a Mophie Snap adapter, which itself is a circular ring of magnets you can attach to the back of your phone to make it Snap compatible. I'll talk more about this in a future Tech Yeah, but for now, I'll just say, reviews are mixed.
Getting back to the battery pack, it's fairly slim, about what you'd normally see for a 5,000 mAh battery. It's just under half an inch thick and it measures 4 ¼ inches by 2 ½ inches. In short, it's only slightly thicker than the iPhone itself and the magnet is strong. I was able to put this into my pocket and pull it back out without it getting detached. If you're like me, and you have walked around with two phones in your pocket before, it's a familiar sensation. Not terribly comfortable, but what do you want for an extra 5,000 mah battery? Plus, compared to the Apple version, this is 40% the cost and just under double the capacity. You can't really argue with that too much.
The battery is covered with a plastic outer casing that feels like fabric to the touch. It has rounded sides, so it's not uncomfortable to hold on to the bottom of the battery. You have a single USB type C port that is bi-directional. You can use it to charge up the battery pack itself or plug in a USB-C cable to charge your device with a cable instead of Qi wireless charging. There's also a power button and four-pip battery indicator.
Overall, this is a very nice accessory to pick up from Mophie. If you have any phone that has wireless charging, I recommend it, but if you have an iPhone 12, I definitely recommend it. One thing to keep in mind is that while the Snap adapter will work on any phone with Qi charging, the battery pack is designed for the iPhone. It will not interfere with the camera on the iPhone, but it might be on a different device depending on where the charging coil is. Of course, there's a link to it below and if you pick one up, I'll get a little commission at no extra cost to you, and you'll have my thanks.
